The situation is evolving
Good Monday morning to you. If you live in the middle of the US (north to south, that is), then you probably have something akin to what we have here in Kentucky. Saturday we received six to seven inches of snow, which was followed by warming temps and freezing rain and sleet. We then received more snow yesterday, and it's snowing now. State officials are asking everyone to stay off the roads for non-emergency travel through today, at least, so I'm working at home today.
And that's not so bad. I can accomplish quite a bit without leaving my home location. During the COVID lockdown I was very surprised that I was not furloughed until we had a better opportunity to get out and market directly to referral sources, but I was kept on board for the duration of that work limitation. And we did a lot of creative things to use our time well. We called other businesses for supplies we were having difficulty locating for our behavioral health facility, like gloves, masks, gowns and hand sanitizer. We marketed to those who refer prospective residents to us via phone and e-mail with the occasional Zoom meeting blended into the schedule. Gradually we started going out into the field one day per week, ramping up gradually to full schedule.
I wound up being at home working Friday because of some internal meetings that were scheduled beyond my control, so I spent some of that time completing continuing education requirements that our parent company makes of every employee. Earlier today I conducted a phone meeting with someone and schedule three for tomorrow (we are still going to be limited on where we may travel). I hand out packets of literature for prospective referrals sources who are unfamiliar with us, so I spent some time creating about 100 such packets this morning.
And now taking a bit of a break to capture some thoughts here.
We are still in an awfully uncertain place pertaining to our country's leadership and what direction things will take over the next week, month, year and longer. The shooting of another innocent protester in Minneapolis underscores the peril that I feel we are in right now. Since another federal government shutdown is potentially on the horizon, perhaps Congressional Democratic leaders will use these circumstances to reduce if not eliminate funding for these invasions of Democratic-led cities and states that are being targeted by this administration strictly for political purposes.
The Epstein files have still not been released in their entirety, and without redactions, and there still is no clear identification of what comes next in Venezuela, Greenland, Iran and Gaza. The Supreme Court has yet to rule on the issue of tariffs and what will happen to the money collected from American consumers over the past year.
Time will tell about all of this, I suppose, which means that my view of all of this will evolve, as everything does.
