Kidding around

Happy Friday, all!  We've almost made it!

Big doings in our family this week.  Our middle granddaughter, who is the second oldest of our five grandchildren, celebrated her 16th birthday on Wednesday!  She's a great kid, plays soccer and sings in the chorus at her high school.  Is progressing in the process of learning to drive, too!

That inspired me to once again share some impressions of all five of the grandkids, albeit without a lot of identifiers like their names and such (for privacy purposes).  Here's the rundown on who's who, and where they live, respectively:

GC #1:  Lives in Colorado, female, 20 years old

GC #2:  Lives in central Kentucky, female, now 16 years old

GC #3:  Lives in Colorado, male, will be 16 on October 28

GC #4:  Lives in central Kentucky, male, now 14 years old

GC #5:  Lives in central Kentucky, female, will be 8 on December 1

The Colorado kids are our daughter's and son-in-law's, the Kentucky kids are our son's and daughter-in-law's.

A little info about each:

GC #1 is technically a junior at Colorado State University, studying environmental issues (there's a more specific name for her actual major).  By all reports she is considering applying to obtain her Master's degree in this subject

GC #2 is this week's birthday girl.  Sophomore in high school, in a program that emphasizes math and science.  Involved in the activities mentioned above, lots of friends and attends a lot of school events.  Just started a part-time job at a bagel shop!

GC #3 is exactly two weeks younger than #2.  He is already almost 6 feet 5 inches tall and is heavily into basketball, as one might expect from his height.  He is quiet with a wicked sense of humor and is a good student.

GC # 4 is our hockey boy.  He's been playing since he was about five years old, and is now a sturdy defenseman for his 14-and-under team.  It's a travel team, so he, his dad and I often go on trips on weekends during the season.  He is in the same program as #2 at the same high school.

GC #5 is our youngest, seven years old and in second grade.  She is such a bright light with a great personality and a pretty amazing fashion sense for someone so young (takes after her big sister).  She also plays soccer and has tried baseball as well.  Has lots of friends and is well liked among her classmates.

My wife and I are so grateful for these five kids, as they are all great kids but they are unique individuals with diverse interests.  The old saying that grandkids are more fun than your own kids is pretty much true in our experience!
