Slowing down
Good Monday morning, friends.
Would you believe that I am in the fourth day of a four day weekend? This is unusual for me, as I am pretty bad at taking time off from work unless there's a specific occasion or trip involved. But a couple of weeks ago I sent my boss a time off request for last Thursday and Friday. He messaged back that he was already scheduled off for the same week, so asked if I would mind changing my request to Friday and Monday.
Done.
So my time off started by watching the Cincinnati Reds' season opening game last Thursday afternoon. While the Reds lost 6-4 that afternoon, they won on Saturday afternoon but lost again yesterday, by a score of 6-3. So it goes.
What else have I done with my time off? Well, for starters, not traveling, which I do most every day. My job is in outside sales, and while I work occasionally in my home area of Lexington, most of my work is at least an hour's drive from my home base. So this was nice.
Went Friday to run an errand and to get my second dose of the latest COVID booster. There are certainly arguments for or against doing so, but since I come in contact with a lot of people in my job, so being protected against a serious case of COVID-19 is still paramount for me.
After doing that, I took my wife out for lunch, which we both enjoyed quite a bit. Then I mowed and trimmed my yard for the first time this season. Looks pretty good, considering there are weeds and a few bare spots.
That evening we watched Kentucky lose in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament, which was bittersweet after getting there this season with a team that was put together by new coach Mark Pope last spring.
Saturday was soccer day, as our youngest granddaughter had back to back games Saturday morning, and then our middle granddaughter's club team played to a 2-2 tie in Lebanon, KY. There we found a pretty good barbecue place with good food and better service. The only missing element was our younger grandson, whom we hosted for the Reds' opening game on Thursday.
Yesterday I did more yard work, fertilizing plants and applying a fertilizer and weed control product on the lawn. Then watched the Reds, then more basketball. Grilled brats that we didn't use on Opening Day, and they were quite good.
Today I slept a little longer than usual, had a second cup of coffee and am writing this. Meeting a friend for lunch a bit later.
Wow, that sounds like a lot, but it's been a nice breather. Probably be a little while before the next one!
